Warriors fall in FIFA rankings

THE Zimbabwe senior men’s national football team, the Warriors, have dropped one place to 122 on the latest FIFA rankings announced this Thursday.

The Warriors, who had closed the year on number 121 in the world and 31st in Africa, dropped one place to 122 in the world and 32nd on the continent, paying the price for their failure at the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

The Warriors became the first national team to bow out of contention for a place in the knockout stages of the AFCON finals after managing one win in their three group matches.

Disappointingly, Zimbabwe lost 1-0 to Senegal in the opening Group B match, before losing 2-1 to Malawi in the second game.

The Warriors bounced back in their last encounter when they beat Guinea 2-1, but unfortunately it was not enough for the boys to progress to the next stage.

Newly-crowned continental champions Senegal continue to secure their pole position in Africa, while Belgium were unmoved at the top of the world table.
