Stakeholders blast ‘selfish’ Felton Kamambo

STAKEHOLDERS have blasted suspended ZIFA chairman Felton Kamambo for his selfishness after it emerged he had urged FIFA to sanction Zimbabwean football after he was barred from attending the Africa Cup of Nations final in Cameroon this Sunday.

Kamambo failed to travel to Cameroon for the AFCON final after being barred by immigration officials at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.

He then called on the World football governing body FIFA to ban Zimbabwean football.

In a letter written by suspended ZIFA Chief Executive Officer, Joseph Mamutse, Kamambo called on FIFA to ban Zimbabwe from international football.

Former Warriors striker, Alois Bunjira believes Kamambo took ZIFA and football as personal his property.

“It’s quite sad that we are in this situation that we are not supposed to be in the guys that are conflicting to come together and discuss the way forward. We want football to be the winner. They might have their own ideas same as the other ideas, so, it’s actually quite good so that they can meet up and discuss football because we want football unless they are not for football or they don’t want football. They are being selfish and run things they want, maybe because of the benefits derived from their position – then we have a big problem,” Bunjira said.

Such episodes of the ZIFA drama continue to haunt the local game without much attention to development.

Last week, the suspended ZIFA board announced the suspension of councillors, including the Premier soccer league chairman Kenny Ndebele, ZIFA secretariat and other members of the ZIFA assembly, thus silencing local football.

The Kamambo-led board stands accused by the Sports and Recreation Commission to account for public funds and failure to deal with sexual harassment of female referees, among other issues.

Football belongs to the people who have it at heart and highly expects the beautiful game to continue but it seems the football mother body is not considering it at all.
