THE tourism and hospitality sector is confident of a major turnaround as Victoria Falls prepares to receive a new airline and the popular carnival set for April.
The sector has many reasons to celebrate the New Year after the relaxation of COVID-19 lockdown measures.
The development has ignited excitement in the resort town of Victoria Falls as it comes ahead of the arrival of German airline, Eurowings Discover this month while the resort City will host a carnival in April.
“We are entering an exciting phase. From where we are coming from, this simply means one thing, a boost to our business. It could never have come at a better time,” said Farai Chimba, an operator.
“You have to understand that we are already excited about the arrival of a new airline. Then the carnival will also come up and all this on the backdrop of the removal of travel restrictions.”
While ensuring the viability of the tourism and hospitality sector, the government through the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development has put its raft of support mechanisms, which include the removal of Value Added Tax (VAT) for local tourists, and availing a 500 million Zimbabwe dollar relief fund for players in the sector last year.
