WARRIORS centre back, Gerald Takwara who was one of the standout players during the Warriors campaign at the Africa Cup of Nations received a hero’s welcome in his home town of Chinhoyi.
The Chinhoyi-bread Takwara, who is a product of Sinoia primary school got a hero’s welcome from his childhood friends in the Mashonaland West capital.
While Takwara went on to enrol at Prince Edward in Harare, his roots are in Chinhoyi where his skills were honed.
Back in his comfort zone Takwara got time to reflect on the Warriors’ campaign where he barely put a foot wrong and got the man of the match award in Zimbabwe’s 2-1 win over Guinea.
” I think our performance was not that bad. We were just unlucky. We would have loved to bring the trophy home but it was not to be and we put 100 percent effort during play.”
Zimbabwe ended the AFCON campaign at the bottom of a tough group which had the likes of Guinea and Senegal but they were certainly not the worst team after winning one game while the likes of defending Champions Algeria were eliminated without a single win.
There were also some positives with the likes of Takwara, Kundai Benyu and Petros Mhari showing that the Warriors have somewhere to build on for the future.
