Zim remains top international destination for tourists

By ZBC Reporter

International tourist arrivals are set to go up this year after an international travel magazine, TravelMag, endorsed Zimbabwe as a must visit Destination.

Hwange Game Drive and Victoria Falls Safari have been ranked number three out of the best 10 Safari Tours on the African Continent, behind Kruger Big 5 Safari in South Africa and Serengeti Safari Experience in Tanzania.

According to ZimParks Spokesperson Tinashe Farawo, the endorsement by TravelMag comes at an opportune time when Zimbabwe’s Tourism Sector is on the recovery path after being battered by COVID-19.

“This is a vote of confidence for our iconic national park, it means this park is a must visit not only for international tourist’s park but for locals as well. The park boasts of the big five and this is where we have the biggest concentration of elephants probably in the world,” he said.

Zimbabwe Business Council Matabeleland Representative Sharon Stead is excited about the latest development.

“It’s great news that Zimbabwe is being showcased on the travel magazine as one of the top safari destination to travel to in Southern Africa,” said Stead.

To reap maximum benefits from the recent development, synergies between tourism players and government will be key in improving service delivery, attract more direct flights into the country and intensify marketing of Destination Zimbabwe ahead of other regional attractions.

The travel and tourism sector contributed 4.1 percent to Zimbabwe’s Gross Domestic Product in 2020, translating to more than 620 million United States dollars.
