Local financial institution, FBC Holdings, has fulfilled its promise of rewarding the Warriors with winning bonuses after beating Guinea in their last match at the Africa Cup of Nations.

After the Warriors delivered a stellar performance in their first group match against Senegal which they lost by a narrow one-nil margin, it gave hope to the nation.

This saw FBC Holdings coming on board ahead of Zimbabwe’s second group match against Malawi with the financial institution boosting the moral of the team with a pledge of one thousand United States dollars for each player as winning bonuses for the rest of the tournament.

The team, however went on to lose 2-1 to Malawi before they found a way to beat Guinea    2-1 in their last match of the tournament earning the promised purse which was handed over by FBC Holdings Chief Executive Dr John Mushayavanhu in Harare this Monday.

“We look forward to you going further as we go into 2023 AFCON and we know that you will do it and I think this time we will be announcing our sponsorship in good time so that as you’re preparing and training you’ll know that this is what is in store for you. My heart bleeds that I am not giving you the houses today but don’t despair you did well and you’re going to be given the money that we promised you for the game that you won,” said Mushayavanhu.

Warriors Defender Gerald Takwara, who represented his teammates, expressed gratitude for the support, pledging to do better in future assignments.

“Please keep on supporting us. We hope to do better at the next AFCON tournament. I think we are going to do better, from the next game coming please be there for us. Keep on motivation us and encouraging us and supporting us also as a nation. We disappointed a lot of people but truth be told we did our best and we will keep on doing our best,” he said.

Zimbabwe will be hoping to qualify for the next Africa Cup of Nations slated for Cote D’Ivoire next year with a busy schedule of qualifiers lying ahead.
