Back from oblivion, Chauya Chikwata are ready to roar

ZIMBABWE Saints is back with a bang after a convincing display in their 2-1 victory over ZPC Hwange in a ZIFA Southern Region Division One league encounter at the weekend.

The win marked their return to competitive action after a 6-year absence.

Affectionately known as Chauya Chikwata, Zimbabwe Saints were once a force to reckon with winning the top-flight league in 1988.

Unfortunately, they sunk into oblivion after financial challenges crippled their operations, leaving behind a rich legacy of bringing out stars such as former Warriors Captain Ephraim Chahwanda, legendary goalkeeper Muzondiwa Mugadza, the evergreen Henry McKop and gifted midfielder Ronald Sibanda to name just a few.  

However, a new look Zimbabwe Saints has made a huge statement of intent with their eyes set on battling for the promotion into the top-flight league.

Chauya Chikwata began life in the Southern Region Division one league with a 2-1 win over ZPC Hwange at White City stadium over the weekend.

“We are back as Zimbabwe Saints we want our supporters to know that we are working tirelessly to restore the lost pride. This season we a building a strong squad and the following season we want to be in the premier league,” says Zimbabwe Saints Team manager and acting head Coach Godfrey Paradza.

Zimbabwe Saints football club Captain Cosmas Fundira says they seek to revive a big football brand that put Bulawayo on the map.

Club Captain Cosmas Fundira noted: “It will be a difficult task but my teammates are more than ready to fight as there is oneness in the team and the moral is high.”

Saints’ last stint in the Premier Soccer League was in 2011 before they were relegated to Division One where they were expelled in 2014 for failing to pay affiliation fees.
