ZIMBABWE’s tourism sector has caught the attention of potential investors at the ongoing Expo 2020 Dubai with prospects of tapping into the Asian and European market.

Zimbabwe’s Commissioner General for the Expo 2020 Dubai, Ambassador Mary Mubi says more than 400 enquiries have so far been made by visitors and travellers.

“Tour operators mainly from the U.A.E (United Arab Emirates) and Czech Republic are seeking to be tourism visitors based on Zimbabwe being a good tourism destination and are making efforts to mobilise more people to visit Zimbabwe. During the month of October to December, the pavilion received 464 enquiries from interested visitors and potential investors,” she noted.

She highlighted other areas that have drawn the interest of investors.

“Some investors have submitted their requests to ZIDA for facilitation and these include in solar energy, hydro power generation, agriculture, imports of macadamia nuts and horticultural products, livestock production, setting up of green companies and many more.”

The latest development dovetails with the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement drive which is bearing fruit after close to two decades of isolation. The Expo which began in October last year will run until March this year.
