The rescheduled 2021 AFCON kicks off this Sunday, with hosts Cameroon taking on Burkina Faso, while the Warriors, who are in Group B together with Senegal, Guinea and Malawi, take to the field a day later.
The Warriors have been camped in Cameroon for close to two weeks and managed to play one friendly match against Sudan and two practice matches against local teams.
Head coach Norman Mapeza is happy with the team’s progress.
“It’s coming out well from the first game we played against Sudan. We are improving and it’s coming out well. I am happy with the team’s progress in terms of movement on and off the ball, how we want to attack or defend – it’s all coming out well,” Mapeza said.
The coach has also praised government for giving the team a longer time to train and acclimatise in the West African nation.
“We are really grateful to the government for the opportunity to come here early and acclimatise and get a few of the conditions it goes a very long way in terms of the overall result.”
The Warriors have no fresh injuries worries, save for Kundai Benyu, who sat out training with a stomach bug.
