Warriors AFCON squad named, leave for Cameroon

By ZBC Reporter
THE Warriors technical department has announced a 23 man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
Knox Mtizwa, Temptation Chiwunga, Panashe Mutimbanyoka and Bill Antonio are among those that have been dropped.

Meanwhile the team have left for Yaounde, Cameroon ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations which kicks off on the 9th of next month, but nothing is certain for the Zimbabwe national soccer team as the FIFA sink or swim deadline for reinstatement of the ZIFA board looms.
The warriors left in two batches. Three players and the teams’ officials left for Cameroon this Wednesday morning as the advance party ahead of the bigger delegation.
Later in the afternoon, 14 players left Harare together with the technical team ahead of the continent’s biggest football competition.
The Warriors will link up with five European-based players in Yaoundé where they are going to be based until the 5th of January when they leave for Bafoussam, the city that will host all their group matches.
Head coach Norman Mapeza is confident of reaching the group stages.
“We have to do better, we can’t be happy with going to a competition only, we need to go mad, compete and the target is the group stages,” said Mapeza.
However, it remains to be seen if the Warriors will be able to kick a ball at the prestigious competition, with the FIFA deadline to reinstate the fired ZIFA board looming.
