VETERAN football administrator and Highlanders President, Ndumiso Gumede has died. He was 76.
Barely a week after the football fraternity honored the veteran football administrator and Highlanders President Ndumiso Gumede for his immense contribution in the development of the country, particularly football, the sporting community and the nation at large has been plunged into mourning after the demise of the same legend this Wednesday.
Ndumiso Gumede’s Sister, Cephekhulu Fuyane confirmed the sad development saying the family is devastated.
“We are short of words to describe how this happened. All along he was well and just fell ill this morning complaining of abdominal pains. We rushed him to hospital where his illness got worse until his demise… The family has lost a pillar, a friend, a brother,” she said.
The late sporting giant got into the football administration as early as the 1970s where he served Highlanders FC in various capacities.
His outstanding contribution for Bosso saw him scaling up to the local football governing body where he rose to become Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) vice-president.
Mourners are gathering at House Number 12 Sheltenham Morningside in Bulawayo.
