Bulawayo basketball league set for the festive break

Basketball Action continued in Bulawayo as 8 teams from the men and women’s A leagues battled for honours.

It was a dosage of good and classic basketball at Khanyisile Courts in Bulawayo over the weekend as teams from the Men and Women’s basketball leagues exchanged Christmas cards in an action-packed weekend.

In the men’s league, Mavericks who sit top of the log with 12 points and are yet to taste defeat after six rounds of matches, outclassed their closest rivals Giants 67-54.

Andile Chirinda was the shining star for Mavericks after hitting 15 points.

Fourth placed Legends were outclassed by Lakers A 51-46, with Panashe Chimedza scoring 25 points for Lakers A.

The mid-table clash between City Knights and Clippers saw Thabani Ndlovu making the difference after hitting 14 points to guide Clippers to a 53-33 win.

However, in the women’s league, Lakers Women who are on top of the log did not feature over the weekend after their game against 6th placed Lakers Mzansi was postponed.

The match between Mavericks and Angels was also postponed.

Second placed, Lakers Glen lodge took advantage of the opportunity to pile pressure on the log leaders after they dispatched struggling City Royals 38-18.

Bottom placed NUST Women’s poor run continued after they failed to beat Highlanders who were propelled to a 46 -33 victory by Nyasha Tore’s 17 points.

The Bulawayo Basketball League is expected to take a two week break before resuming in January next year.
