Government has pledged to increase the availability of locally produced goods through investing in efficient manufacturing systems.
Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who was the Guest of Honour at the Buy Local Summit in Harare this Thursday, told captains of industry and government officials that gains arising from the growth on the availability of locally produced goods need to be sustained.
“We cannot be seen importing inputs when we have the capacity to produce and support the projects being implemented. The private sector should therefore come on board in support of government to build the Zimbabwe we all want for our people,” he said.
Industrialist Ms Sicelo Dube also spoke on the current gains in the availability of locally produced commodities.
“It is still too early to celebrate but the path is there for positivity, we need to carry on in the future. The support from the government augurs well for industrialisation of the economy provided more resources are mobilised to increase innovation and catch up with modern technologies,” she said.
Zimbabwe has come up with a local content policy to promote value addition and linkages, through utilisation of domestic resources and consumption of locally produced products.
