An inaugural state of industry and commerce survey has been launched as Zimbabwe seeks to gather detailed information for policy formulation.
The need to cement the current trajectory with respect to macro-economic stability and growth has seen the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce- ZNCC undertaking the sector wide Industry and Commerce Survey detailing critical business indicators.
The country has been relying heavily on externally generated business indices but the new Industry and Commerce Survey is set to change the status quo as it is tailor made for the Zimbabwean economy.
Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce Vice President Mr Mike Kamungeremu believes the results of the survey will come with home grown solutions for country specific challenges.
“As ZNCC we have realised the need to come up with our own initiatives that becomes our guiding principles in a far as the policy framework is concerned and this survey will further deepen our understanding of our entire economy,” he said.
The Minister of Finance and Economic Development Professor Mthuli Ncube who launched the initiative commended the private sector for coming on board to partner government in steering the country towards economic prosperity.
“I am very impressed with the contents of these findings as they are consistent with what is already in our public domain and as such this confirms that we are now in the right direction,” said Mthuli.
According to Economic observers the coming in of private sector led surveys is a signal of confidence by stakeholders in the collective approach to develop Zimbabwe.
