Gymnast Misheck Mbele bags bronze medal in Lesotho

TEAM Zimbabwe bagged its first medal at the ongoing African Union Sports Council Region Five youth games after Gymnast Misheck Mbele scooped bronze in Maseru, Lesotho this Saturday.

Misheck Mbele was the first Zimbabwean athlete to compete in Maseru at the regional youth games and he duly laid the marker after bagging a bronze medal.

The young athlete represented the country in the team event on his own after his partner pulled out of the tournament due to a leg fracture but that did not deter him as he went about his business with the confidence of a seasoned gymnast.

Back home, Misheck trains on hard surfaces because there are no air or tumbling tracks, however he put all that aside to win a medal as he had promised.

Meanwhile the Zimbabwean swimming team finally managed to conduct its first training session this Saturday after the team’s management secured a private facility.

This comes after the hosts failed to provide an alternative training facility as the competitions venue is not yet ready.

“It has been very difficult, we have two swimmers meant to go to World’s after this and they are losing a lot of gametime but then it is what it is, its not just us in this situation but everyone but all the same it’s not good.”

Elsewhere the country’s volleyball teams will be in action late this evening as they take on the hosts Lesotho in the peak of the day’s matches, at the Lehakoe courts.

This Sunday will see tennis and taekwondo getting their first taste of action in the Mountain Kingdom.
