The upgrade of the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport is progressing well, with the VIP pavilion expected to be the outstanding feature once the expansion works are complete.
Zimbabwe is set to become Southern Africa’s regional air travel hub as works to expand the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport are progressing at a fast pace.
Airports Company of Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer Mr Tawanda Gusha gave an update on the progress made so far.
“As you can see we are within our set targets to complete these works in 2022 and a VIP pavilion that is being constructed will be the outstanding feature of the airport that will give it a huge facelift,” he said.
Airports Company of Zimbabwe Board Chairperson Mr Dave Popatlal underscored the Second Republic’s determination to equal global aviation standards.
“It is apparent that Government is serious in terms of building the country’s infrastructure and we are going to realise huge benefits in terms of growing business in tourism as well.as attracting international capital,” said Popatlal.
The project is one of the many being carried out by the Second Republic to spruce up the country’s infrastructure and once the work is complete, annual passenger holding capacity will increase from the current 2.5 million to over 6 million passengers.
