2022 national budget under scrutiny

By Stanley James

PARLIAMENT is assessing whether the 2022 national budget captured the views of the people before it is approved in the next few weeks.

The recommendations for the 2022 budget were under the spotlight by legislators as they looked into whether the treasury took into consideration the proposals during the presentation of the statement on Thursday last year.

Director of Budget in Parliament, Mr Pepukai Chikowore outlined the extent to which the budget included recommendations from citizens.

“There are several issues that were taken into account but it is the extent to which it was fulfilled that is key for concern,” said Pepukai Chiwore, Director Parliament Budget Office.

However, it is some of the areas not included in the budget that are source of worry.

The extent to which the budget will be approved is also under the spotlight.

“This is subject to the debates outcome by the key members of the parliament,” said Senator Douglas Mwonzora, MDC-T president and leader of opposition in Parliament.

Presenting the 927,6 billion Zimbabwe dollar national budget, Finance and Economic Development Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube assured Zimbabweans that treasury had taken into account the views from people in what he termed a people’s oriented budget.
