THE Zimbabwe Davis Cup team has left the country for Tunisia ahead of a World group two encounter scheduled for this weekend.
The five-member team left the country this Tuesday ahead of the Davis cup World group two encounter against the hosts in Tunis.
Benjamin Lock and his younger brother Courtney, Mehluli Sibanda and Thabo Ncube will represent the country with Gwinyai Tongoona being the non-playing skipper.
Although Tunisia is the top-ranked country in Africa, Tennis Zimbabwe president Biggie Magarira is confident the team has a good chance to upset the hosts.
“I’m confident with the boys on the tour right now if we look the way Benji Lock is playing is fantastic and I’m confident that if we continue giving resources and opportunities for our boys to continue playing at the top level we have no doubt we can move into group 1 and to the elite,” said Biggie Magarira tennis Zim president.
This is the first time that Zimbabwe will be competing in Davis Cup since beating Syria 3-1 at Harare Sports Club last year.
The winner will advance to the 2022 World Group one Play-offs.
