THE Zimbabwe under-21 Women’s national hockey team is gearing up for the Junior World Cup slated for South Africa next month.
The under-21 ladies hockey team has stepped up preparations ahead of the Junior Hockey World Cup, which will be staged in Potchefstroom, South Africa.
The event will run from the 5th to the 17th of next month and Zimbabwe will open the tournament with a match against Ireland.
Team manager, Florence Mhasho is confident of the team’s chances.
“The girls have been training very hard and we have been preparing for this world cup since 2019. COVID -19 has been a hindrance towards training sessions that we have been having at St John’s AstroTurf. The girls are focused and determined that they can do their best and our main aim is to come top in our tier as our main objective everything else thereafter is a bonus to our efforts,” she said.
After COVID-19 disrupted the qualifiers, the International Hockey Federation selected the participating teams using the ranking system.
Zimbabwe has been to the World Cup before, having graced the Namibia showpiece in 2016.
