THE second round of the national Beach Volleyball series, which was held in Binga last weekend is expected to be the starting point for the development and standardisation of the game in the country.
The Binga community has commended the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) for seeing value in the underutilised Binga sand beach after hosting the prestigious event with the focus now on hosting international and regional events at the venue.
Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) President, Mxolisi Ndlovu said the aim of the event was to draw attention to the value of Binga as a tourist attraction centre.
“As we all know that we are coming from a serious lockdown, so it’s our national goal to promote sports tourism, we want to bring volleyball where people are.”
Sports and Recreation Officer for Binga, Ronald Siyamwamwata weighed in saying plans are underway to introduce beach volleyball in Binga.
“We want this sport to be initiated from ward level since the series which was hosted over the weekend acted as an eye opener to our society.”
The general feeling is that with the success of the Binga event the appeal of the sport is expected to increase among Zimbabweans.
