The transformation of the SME’s sector into big companies is premised on overcoming issues pertaining to quality and standards.
A host of challenges lie in the path of growing the SMEs sector and experts believe dealing with issues around quality, standards and adopting modern technologies is the panacea to grow the sector.
“There are a lot of benefits which accrue to attaining ISO certification and we encourage small to medium enterprises to improve their operational systems so that they attract export endorsements,” ISO Expert, Engineer Alexander Makotose explained.
Zimbabwe’s trade promotion body, ZimTrade believes that the SMEs sector possesses huge export potential.
Zimtrade Exports Development Manager Tatenda Marume said: “Zimtrade has got programmes that we are undertaking to teach SME’s the demands of the export market pertaining to quality and standards and that emphasis has helped many of them to break export barriers.”
The National Development Strategy 1 cites the SME’s sector as key to economic recovery and an essential component to the attainment of Vision 2030.
