By Lawrence Trusida Sports Editor
THE Zimbabwe senior men football team, the Warriors capped off a miserable World Cup qualifying campaign with just two points after a one-all draw with Ethiopia at the National Sports Stadium this Sunday.
ZBC NEWS Sports Editor, Lawrence Trusida looks at the five talking points from the poor campaign.
ZERO: is the number of wins Zimbabwe managed in the entire 2022 world cup qualifying campaign in which the Warriors played six games.
It turned out to be an all time low for Zimbabwe who have never finished a qualifying campaign of any tournament without a win.
ONE: is the only goal the Warriors scored at home.
The long range 37th minute strike by Kudakwashe Mahachi at the National Sports against Ethiopia this Sunday was the first goal the warriors scored at home in three matches during the group stage.
Of all the firepower the country poses in Tino Kadewere, Knowledge Musona, Khama Billiat, and David Moyo among others, they only managed a single goal at home.
TWO: is the number of points Zimbabwe collected in the campaign out of a possible 18 points.
The Warriors drew nil-all draw with South Africa at the national Sports stadium and collected the other point i the one-all draw against Ethiopia.
THREE: is the number teams Zimbabwe failed to beat at home and away.
Zimbabwe played South Africa, Ghana and Ethiopia with the Warriors failing to beat any of the three teams home and away in miserable campaign in which the venue did not matter as their opponents, outthought, outfought and outmaneuvered them.
FOUR: is the number of matches lost by the Warriors as they finished at the bottom of group G.
Even Ethiopia which is ranked lower than the Warriors had fewer losses than Zimbabwe.
Those defeats and the goals conceded meant that the Warriors concluded the damned campaign with a minus five goal difference, which brings us to the Number: FIVE
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Football Association will give clarity on coach Norman Mapeza’s future after his interim contract ended with the Warriors last match this Sunday.
ZIFA is expected to swiftly deal with the issue as the rescheduled 2021 AFCON gets underway in less than two months’ on the 9th of January in Cameroon.
