The Zimbabwe senior netball team, the Gems rediscovered the winning formula with a narrow 50-49 victory over the Desert Jewels of Namibia at the ongoing Africa Championships in Windhoek this afternoon.
A fourth quarter fight back propelled the Gems to their first win at the ongoing Africa Netball Championships in Windhoek, Namibia.
After being thumped 78-27 by South Africa in their opening match, the Gems needed a response in their second match against hosts Namibia.
The hosts started strongly and gave Zimbabwe a scare as they took the first quarter 18-13 pushing the visitors into panic mode.
The Desert Jewels continued to press home advantage, but the Gems were slowly getting into the game and went to the half time breather trailing by four points at 29-25.
In the third quarter, the Gems only managed to shave one point from the deficit, making it a potentially exciting final quarter.
Experience came in handy in the last quarter as the Gems managed to win the fourth quarter 13-9 and eventually bag the match by a single point.
The Gems next face giants Malawi in their next match his Thursday.
