INDUSTRY’s contribution towards the country’s attainment of an upper-middle-income society by 2030 is high on the agenda at the three-day Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) congress, which kicked off in Harare this Wednesday.
Members of the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries are meeting for the first time in two years after a Covid-19 induced sabbatical, with a focus on capturing domestic, regional and international markets through excellence and building strong infrastructure throughout the 36 sub-sectors of the industry.
As such, the local industry is looking at consolidating capacity utilisation, which is expected to end the year at 61 percent, up from 35 percent last year.
“As an industry, we are pressing for policy harmonisation and alignment to industry needs as we seek for a private sector-led economy, which is driven by solid economic structure supported by fair regulation and efficient policies,” said Kurai Matsheza CZI president.
With the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Dr Sekai Nzenza highlighting that past economic experiences were a learning curve, the industry is now on the right path towards the full industrialisation of the Zimbabwean economy.
“As a government, we are very much appreciative of the progress currently happening in respect of industrialisation which is being testified by the increase in capacity utilisation where we now have 65 percent of local products congesting supermarkets and retail shops countrywide,” said Minister Nzenza.
The full implementation of the National Development Strategy One is also expected to strengthen the operating environment giving credence to Zimbabwe’s economic growth prospects.
