Gems aiming for podium finish

It is a clash of the best on the continent as the Africa Netball Championships roar into life in Namibia this Tuesday, with Zimbabwe taking on champions South Africa in their first match.

Ten teams will be battling it out for a chance to be the continent’s champions for the next two years when the Africa Netball Championship roars into life in Windhoek, Namibia this Tuesday.

South Africa are the reigning champions after conquering at the last edition held in Cape Town.

The Gems finished fourth in 2019 and grabbed a bronze medal at the just ended Pent Series where six teams battled for honours.

Fresh from playing five matches in five days in the Pent Series, the Gems have their work cut out as they will feature in seven games over seven days at the African championships.

We are really struggling for fitness we have to manage our players remember we are playing everyday and our players have been out of action in the last two years but the squad is motivated we have youngsters who will are also giving opportunities as we are already preparing for the future. In terms of target we are targeting a podium finish,said Gems Head Coach Llyod Makunde

South Africa have named a strong squad for the tournament and the Gems will have to be at their best in the opener.
