THE Zimbabwe Netball team, the Gems lost their second match in three outings at the ongoing Pent Series in Namibia after a 79-40 defeat by the She Cranes of Uganda.
The gulf in class between one of the best teams on the continent and the Gems was evident as Zimbabwe fell by a huge margin in their third match at the Pent series in Namibia.
Uganda dominated play with very few turnovers while also locking the shooting circles for Zimbabwe to make any meaningful inroads.
The She Cranes were on top of the game, ending the first quarter leading 22-8.
Zimbabwe tried to bounce back in the second quarter but it was to no avail as Uganda closed the space and dominated the ball making it a no contest.
In the second half, the pace slowed down but the margin said it all with Uganda maintaining the gap of 32 points with a fierce power play in the third quarter.
The game eventually ended with a massive loss for the Gems after Uganda cruised to a comfortable 79-40 victory.
The Gems are currently in fourth place with two points while Uganda is leading the table with six points, two points above second-placed Malawi.
Zimbabwe will face Namibia in their fourth match this Thursday before rounding off their Pent series campaign with a match against Zambia on Friday.
The focus will then shift to the African Championships three days later with regional powerhouse South Africa joining the six teams competing for honours at the Pent series.
The Pent Series and the African Championships are the much-needed preps for the 2023 Netball World Cup slated for South Africa.
