Zimbabwe will have an extended 16-member squad at the Pent Series and the African Netball Championships which get underway on Monday in Namibia.

Surrey Storm defender, Felisitus Kwangwa leads the new look Gems squad with only five players who represented the country at the World Cup in 2019 being retained.

Mid court players, Patricia Mauladi and Vice-captain, Claris Kwaramba together with shooters; Ursula Ndlovu and Sharon Bwanali are the other four seniors who were in Liverpool for the World Cup.

Progress Moyo, who was a reserve at the World Cup has also earned another call up so is Queen Sigauke who seems to have taken Rudo Karume’s position as goalkeeper.

Shooter Tafadzwa Matura and centre Nobukhosi Ndlovu are exciting prospects who have been given a chance to show what they can offer.

I am happy with the camping time and we are going there for a win, even though some of the guys have been active, but we not using it as an excuse we want to win, and if we don’t then I want good performances as you can see we are already building up for the World Cup Qualifiers with this young squad so we are ready, said Ndlovu.

Zimbabwe has taken a bloated squad because of the two tournaments set for Windhoek.

The Gems have several matches lined up in the five day Pent Series starting with a date against Africa’s number two ranked nation, Malawi on the 1st of November, before battling Kenya a day later with games against Namibia, Uganda and Zambia coming after.

The Africa Cup will start soon after on the 9th and will run till the 16th of next month at the same venue.

South Africa are the defending African champions.
