Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services teams Tenax and Whahwa are set to benefit from the organisation’s sports development strategy which is meant to improve performance.
With new boys Tenax and league returnees Whawha having struggled in the Chibuku Super cup, ZPCS Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu has noted the need to review the organisation’s sports strategies to improve performance.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a ZPCS sports indaba in Mutare this Tuesday.
We came up with resolutions centred on motivation, promotion of junior policy, strengthening the squads and the need to increase support. We agreed to look for more sponsorship and start various business to make our teams more sustainable. As a country we need to increase commitment towards sports and motivate our players. We also need to have a vibrant youth policy to broaden the selection base, he said.
ZPCS officers and sports administrators are upbeat that new strategies will turn around the fortunes of the organisation’s teams.
Sports is a business that requires selfless dedication in order to come up with a winning formula
Since I was elected as chairperson of Hwahwa FC this is the first time to hold such a sports Indaba. The Commissioner General promised to increase support towards sporting activities. The teams were failing to perform due poor funding to cater for players bonuses, food and accommodation, they said.
Apart from the ZPCS, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Zimbabwe Republic Police and mining companies are also investing in sports development.
