THE country’s largest tourism exhibition fair, Sanganayi/Hlanganani Expo, has kicked off in Harare, amid high expectations of new business opportunities.
One of the biggest Tourism expos in Africa, Sanganayi/ Hlanganani Tourism Expo kicked off in Harare this Wednesday, with stakeholders confident of creating new synergies and opportunities for Destination Zimbabwe.
Launching the tourism expo, Acting Minister of Environment, Climate Change, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Dr Jenfan Muswere spoke on the need to continue marketing Zimbabwe as a tourism destination of choice.
“This Edition comes as we have managed to join the virtual space to attract buyers and exhibitors and also the upgrading of infrastructure airports, roads, hotels has come in handy and we definite this will propel the industry towards the 5 billion dollar industry by 2025,” said Dr Muswere.
Zimbabwe Tourism Authority Acting Chief Executive Mr Givemore Chidzidzi acknowledged the increase in space taken by exhibitors as the sector opens up to tourists.
“This year’s edition has seen an increase of buyers and exhibitors as we are easing back to normalcy,” said Mr Chidzidzi.
Tourism Business Council of Zimbabwe President Mr Wengayi Nhau highlighted the need to surpass last year’s figure of 639 thousand tourists.
“We want to get Zimbabwe amongst the leading destination of choice for tourist and this tear’s virtual expo is going to assist in that,” he said.
The virtual fair is expected to provide a vital conduit for the tourism sector to reposition its brand given limitations triggered by covid-19.
