The Zimbabwe Handball Federation has unveiled a new training kit for the Under 21 men national team for the forthcoming African Handball Cup of Nations slated for Morocco next year.
Handball continues to grow as a sport across the age divide, with the promotion of the game the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation and the Zimbabwe Handball Federation in partnership with the embassy of Switzerland.
A Swiss company donated training and match kits, playing shoes, back packs and balls to the Under 21 Zimbabwe handball National team that will participate in the 2022 African Handball Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Honourable Kirsty Coventry highlighted the importance of partnerships between the two countries in promoting sport.
The sponsorship of kits for our team really shows neutral respect and friendship between the two countries. It is very exciting for the local handball federation to be recognised,she said.
She also revealed plans to revamp Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex handball ground.
We are working on revamping a lot of our sporting arenas and stadia. The Chitungwiza Complex, which houses the regional handball grounds is definitely on the budget for next year. We again are reaching out to partners to see how can come in the corporation, she added.
Switzerland Ambassador to Zimbabwe, His Excellency Niculin Jäger emphasised the significance of sport as a unifier of nations.
Sport has a unique power of uniting people and Switzerland is a sporting nation. We believe in this power and today is one of the days you can see the reality and people come together join forces,said Jager.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Handball National team will be returning to camp this Friday in preparation for the African Union Sports Council Region Five set for December.
