Lethargic Mighty Warriors stumble past Eswatini

By ZBC Reporter

The Mighty Warriors beat Eswatini 3-1 in a first leg, first round Africa Women Cup of Nations Qualifier at the National Sports Stadium this Wednesday.

The senior women’s team threatened to run away with the game only for Eswatini to come back and wrestle control of the game and get a crucial away goal.

The Mighty Warriors took an early lead courtesy of a goal from veteran midfielder Marjory Nyaumwe in the fifth minute before Privilege Mupeti doubled the lead in the 17th minute.

The goal seemed to have irked the visitors as they started controlling possession and were duly rewarded with a goal in the 42nd minute after a mazy run from Lindiwe Mokgale.

Mighty Warriors captain Emmaculate Msipa had the final say of the half after she latched onto a rebound at the stroke of halftime and went to the breather leading three-nil.

The second half failed to light up and both teams fizzled out and the match ended with the Mighty Warriors carrying a slight advantage going to Mbabane for the return fixture.

Both the Mighty Warriors coach, Sithethelelwe Sibanda and her captain Emmaculate Msipa bemoaned lack of concentration from the team.

The return leg is set for this Sunday in Eswatini.
