Govt hails media on mining development issues

Government has praised efforts by the media to focus on mining development issues in line with the envisaged US$12 billion mining industry by 2023.

The 2021 Mining Media Awards Ceremony held virtually this Friday saw Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Honourable Kindness Paradza commending journalists for focusing on the key mining sector in their reportage.

“It is the duty of the media to focus on key mining issues affecting the nation to promote awareness which leads to identifying the set challenges,” he said.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Honourable Winston Chitando outlined the importance of the media in the growth of the mining sector.

“The media is always needed in our focus to pursue the developmental agenda and NDS1 so we need to work with them in our set levels of activities,” said the minister.

Several journalists won awards in different categories, with ZBC provincial reporter Mthokozisi Dube scooping the best chrome mining reporter of the year award.
