Lady Chevrons make ODI debut

The Zimbabwe women national cricket team is optimistic of positive results when they take on Ireland at Harare Sports Club in four One Day International matches which get underway this Tuesday.

The ladies will make their One Day International (ODI) debut this Tuesday after getting full international status in April this year.

The full international status will see the Lady Chevrons playing test and ODI matches with other eleven full member nations.

The Lady Chevrons are taking advantage of the Ireland tour to prepare for the T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers after winning the regional qualifiers held in Botswana recently.

“It really means a lot. Being part of history and everyone who will walk down into the pitch tomorrow would want to win and lead the nation to victory and remain on the right side of history,” said captain Mary-Anne Musonda.

Although the Lady Chevrons have a clean bill of health ahead of the series, they, however, will be without Sharne Myers and Anesu Mushangwe who could not travel back to Zimbabwe because of Covid-19 restrictions in Australia.

The visiting Irish team is at full strength as they are also preparing for the World cup qualifiers.

The two teams last met four years ago with the bulk of the series being washed away by rain.

The matches will be played behind closed doors but fans can follow proceedings on the Zimbabwe Cricket social media pages.
