VETERAN midfielder Marjory Nyaumwe scored a late winner as the Mighty Warriors edged South Sudan 2-1 at the COSAFA WOMEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP in South Africa.
The win keeps the senior women’s national team in contention after losing their first match in Group B on Wednesday.
Striker Rudo Neshamba thrust the Mighty Warriors into an early lead but the visiting South Sudanese restored parity and threatened to derail the Zimbabwean plans before the late show.
With the win, the Mighty Warriors are now on three points from two matches, while Tanzania have qualified for the semi finals after beating Botswana two nil in an earlier match.
“We are making progress and I think we are improving with each game, the good thing we have our future in our hands.”
Zimbabwe will take in Botswana in their last group game, needing nothing short of victory to have any chances of being the best placed runner up that will join the three group winners in the semi-finals.
