ZIMBABWE’s effort to ensure a private sector driven agriculture economy is on track as more companies target financing

the summer cropping season.

Three firms in the telecommunications, agro-processing and beef processing sectors have reached an agreement with young farmers over financing agriculture schemes at the Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.

The emerging agriculture players expressed gratitude to the involvement of the private sector towards increasing confidence in the farming sector value chain.

The Deputy Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, Honourable Vangelis Haritatos while revealing the government’s commitment to welcome private sector participation in the farming sector hinted at the need for farmers to honour loan obligations.

“ We really trust and believe that in the near future tight schemes might need to bridge the gap between those who are not repaying and those honouring loans.”

Most Banks have pledged to finance the agriculture sector which is this year projected by the treasury to register a 34 percent growth due to a bumper harvest.
