Zimbabwe bags bronze medals at African Triathlon Cup

MAKANAKA Mawere bagged bronze for Zimbabwe in the junior women’s category at the just ended BONAQUA Africa TRIATHLON Cup at Troutbeck resort in Nyanga.
The 17-year old who just returned from injury finished closely behind two South African girls Kira Ribbink and Visser Anika to conclude the podium positions in the Africa Triathlon Union, junior Triathlon Cup.
Coming from a long term injury, Mawere was delighted with her feat.
“I am really happy with my achievements x after my injury it means a lot to know that you can compete with the best in the continent,” he said.
Another Zimbabwe Jessica Fuller came fifth in the junior ladies category.
In the Junior men category, Roussouw Venter of South Africa, won the event while Kenyan, Paul Makona was in second, with Kyle Eriksen of south Africa in third and Zimbabwe’s George Ascot could only manage a fourth place finish.
In the Elite Women category, South Africans, Hannar Newman and Bridget Theunissen managed the first two positions while 45 year old Zimbabwean Greer Wynn came in third.
“Really delighted with the finish, knowing that I could still compete with the world’s best, and representing my country I am really delighted,” said Greer Wynn.
Ayan Biesnbayev of Kazakhstan won the Elite Men’s event ahead of Jawad Adbelmoula of Morocco and his fellow country man Badr Ziwane.
There was no local representation in the Elite men’s event.
