THE country’s tourism sector is on the rebound after Victoria falls’ Matetsi luxury hotel, was named as the number one resort hotel in Africa.
After losing millions in potential revenue owing to COVID-19 induced travel restrictions, the country’s tourism sector is on the rebound as airways and borders gradually open up across the globe.
Boasting of numerous tourist attractions with Victoria Falls at the top of the list, the naming of Matetsi as the number one resort hotel in Africa on the Travel Leisure World’s Best awards, serves as a major boost to the country’s tourism sector.
“This is not just an accolade, this is indeed a true reflection of teamwork. What makes it more pleasing is that it comes when you’re celebrating 5 years of service,” said the Minister of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Mangaliso Ndlovu.
He also noted that government is aware of the COVID-19 related challenges the sector is facing.
“We need to strike a balance between national response and survival of the industry.”
Matetsi Luxury Hotel Director, Sara Gardiner says they aim to showcase Zimbabwe’s extraordinary hospitality services.
“This accolade is a tribute to our team who worked so tirelessly to create moments of Matetsi magic for our guests.”
The tourism sector is among the country’s low hanging fruits and is expected to contribute significantly to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
