Big guns lead Chevrons to victory over Ireland

The Chevrons put up a convincing display as they defeated Ireland by 38 runs in the first One Day International played at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Belfast this Wednesday evening.

The returning senior players who were omitted in the T20s, Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams and Sikander Raza together with captain Craig Ervine all shown with the bat as Zimbabwe posted a commanding 266 for seven (7) in their innings.

Former captain Brendan Taylor opened the batting and scored 49 before he was dismissed, the captain Ervine soon joined and continued with his fine form as he hit a half century and at the tail end of the innings all-rounder Sikander Raza hit a quick-fire 59 not out.

In reply, William Potterfield and Harry Tector offered resistance with half centuries but once they were dismissed Blessing Muzarabani ripped through the batting order to dismiss the hosts for 228 runs and give the Chevrons the first victory in the three match series.

The ODI series is part of the Super League, which is being used as a qualifier for the 2023 World Cup and the win puts Zimbabwe on joint 12th position with 20 points.

The top eight will qualify automatically for the World Cup.
