Innovation to drive increased productivity: President

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa says government has created an enabling environment for innovation to thrive as part of efforts to boost industrial productivity
The role of innovation in boosting productivity is under the spotlight at the Global Trade in Services Summit, which is being held at the 2021 China International Fair.
Addressing the summit virtually, President Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe is dedicated to working with China and the rest of the world in fostering an inclusive environment for socio-economic cooperation.
“My government has thus, identified the digital economy as a strategic aspect in the journey to become an upper middle income economy by 2030. Zimbabwe continues to create an enabling ecosystem to unleash the power of innovation in driving cooperation for increased production, productivity, entrepreneurship, job creation, access to new markets and the uptake of new technologies. International cooperation and intellectual property protection with regards to the digital sector is also being pursued,” said the Prersident.
Government has also adopted an e-agriculture strategy as a way of transforming the sector.
“Zimbabwe is spearheading Smart Agriculture in Africa that will guide the development of e-agriculture strategies on the African Continent. Internally, my government is deploying an e-Agriculture Strategy which aims at transforming agriculture for national prosperity and to lift many people out of poverty. Meanwhile, investment opportunities are abound in tourism infrastructure development and the broadening of our tourism products,” he added.
Zimbabwe has vast investment opportunities in energy and power generation, transport, infrastructure and ICTs among others.
The global trade summit is being held under the theme: ‘Towards Digital Future and Service Driven Development.
