ZIMBABWE national cricket team head coach, Lalchand Rajput is optimistic his charges will turn the tables when they face Ireland in the ODI series after a poor show in T20 encounters.
After winning the first T20 match in Ireland, the Chevrons failed to build on the momentum after losing the next three encounters and in the process concede the series with a match to go.
The final T20 match in Bready set for Saturday is now academic and the Chevrons will head to Belfast for a One Day International (ODI) series that is crucial for the country’s World Cup qualification campaign.
With seasoned campaigners Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams and Sikander Raza on the side-lines for this series, youngsters who have been thrown into the fray have struggled.
“I am very happy with the performance of the youngsters, yes the results haven’t been good but individual performances have been good and it’s a learning curve and we will. Come good, we just need to eliminate small mistakes,” said Lalchand Rajput, Chevrons Coach.
The team is therefore hoping for better fortune in the ODI series.
“There is a lot to play for, is we win the remaining match we carry that momentum into the one day series which is serving as a world. Cup Qualifier,” said Wellington Masakadza, Chevrons Bowler.
Zimbabwe and Ireland clash in the last T20 encounter this Saturday, with the three match ODI series getting underway on Wednesday next week.
