Highlanders Football Club is taking a proactive approach in financial sustainability after launching branded and classy canvas shoes with the product having already hit the market.
As the old adage says ‘money follows ideas’, Bulawayo giants Highlanders have hatched yet another fine product in a bid to boost their revenue generation, with concerns that the club might lose the bulk of its players due to financial challenges.
This comes at a time when Captain Ariel Sibanda and Vice-captain Nqobizitha Masuku are reported to have terminated their contracts over unpaid dues.
Bosso have partnered a Bulawayo-based company Anzisha Marketing in the manufacturing and selling of branded canvas shoes, an initiative set to be one of the club’s main revenue streams considering the popularity of the footwear in Bulawayo.
Highlanders Chief Executive Officer Nhlanhla Dube says the club will get 20 percent from the sale of every pair pegged at 25 United States dollars.
We have been working hard as a club to come up with solutions towards the growth and sustainability of the team hence we have come up with branded shoes,he said.
The team’s fans have welcomed the initiative, vowing to support the project.
We are very happy and excited by this idea and we will buy these shoes as they are part of the regalia. The price is OK considering the challenges our team is facing we will rally behind them, said one of the fans.
It is hoped that these efforts to boost their coffers will yield positive results and in turn stop the looming player exodus.
