The Zimbabwe Football Association ( ZIFA) has sent a condolence message to the Shaya Family following the death of Football Legend George ‘Mastermind’ Shaya.
In a statement,ZIFA Communications and Competitions Manager Xolisani Gwesela described the late as a footballer par excellence whose shoes will be difficult to fill.
The Zimbabwe Football Association conveys its heartfelt condolences to the Shaya Family and the local football fraternity at large following the sad passing of football legend George ‘Mastermind’ Shaya.an exceptional footballer who excelled during the colonial era,one of the most difficult periods in the history of Zimbabwe.His legacy of excellence as a serial winner and record-five time soccer star lives eternal to inspire many generations of local footballers,read the statement.
Gwesela also noted that it was sad that Shaya had passed before witnessing anyone match his haul of five soccer star accolades in the top flight league.
Shaya died early Tuesday morning at his home in Glenorah Harare.
He was 77.
