The Second Republic is walking the talk in the country’s industrialisation and modernisation agenda as confirmed by the commissioning of Verity Engineering plant at Feruka in Mutare.
Vice President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care, lauded the initiative as a positive development that will enhance medical oxygen supply and bolster efforts to fight Covid-19.
“Today is important day in advancing the industrialisation and modernisation agenda. It’s driven by the need for national self-sufficiency. This will enhance availability of medical oxygen as the country fights the Covid-19 pandemic. This is testimony to the strategic visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa. He is the torch bearer of the country’s strategic vision,” he said.
Ministers, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, Professor Amon Murwira, Honourable Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri and Senator Monica Mutsvangwa outlined the significance of the new plant to the country.
“I am even more excited on the commissioning of plant. This is in line with the devolution agenda, employment creation and industrialising thrust as well as increasing GDP,” said Manicaland Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere.
The Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Professor Dr Amon Murwira said: “Industry is created. It comes from innovation and technology. It will improve the standard of living. It is by our configuring to deliver science and technology that we can accelerate development. This is the path to promote industrialisation and modernisation. This is an essential medicine to Covid-19.”
Honourable Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri, the Minister of Defence and War Veterans Affairsalso said: “We thank you for supporting us for promoting import substitution. You have demonstrated capacity that is a panacea to the we industrialisation that followed the imposition of illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe.”
“This development brings a lot of happiness to the country. We want to make sure we industrialise and modernise and make use of home-based science and technology as we turn around the fortunes of the country. It will create employment and promote import substitution,” Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said.
Verify Engineering Board Chairperson Air Commodore Dr Engineer Edgar Munyarari Kamusoko says the company is targeting to contribute towards industrialisation through commercialisation of technology.
“We aim to contribute towards industrialisation through commercialisation of technology. We are involved in a number of projects that include the medical oxygen plant of over 99 percent purity. We are producing industrial gases and in the process, promote employment creation,” he said.
The medical oxygen and industrial gas plant commissioned by President Mnangagwa is the second in the region after South Africa.
