Warriors in Pot 3, to face heavyweights in AFCON Draw

By ZBC Reporter

The draw for the 2021 African Cup of Nations is set to be held in Yaounde, Cameroon this evening with Zimbabwe facing the possibility of being drawn against at least two giants.

Zimbabwe will make their fifth appearance at the AFCON tournament set for Cameroon next year but it could yet be another tough battle with the Warriors in Pot 3 of the draw due to a poor ranking.

This has left Zimbabwe facing the possibility of being paired against at least two African heavyweights.

Pot one has hosts Cameron, giants Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and Egypt and the Warriors will face one of these teams.

With traditional giants like Mali, Ghana, and Cote D’ivoire in pot two, the Warriors have their work cut out.

The 24 teams will be divided into six groups of four with the top two teams progressing to the quarter finals alongside the four best third placed teams.

The Warriors have never progressed beyond the group stages at Africa’s biggest football competition and they have been somewhat unlucky to be paired against tournament hosts on different occasions.

The tournament is scheduled for January next year in Cameroon.
