THE Zimbabwe Chess Federation has come up with an operational plan for chess players to continue with the chess league online.
Though not renowned as it seems or never regarded as a sport but a hobby, Chess has been one of the indoor recreational and competitive sports played around Zimbabwe.
With the COVID-19 pandemic becoming a new normal, most sporting events are on hold, in adherence to the precautions and guidelines to curb the spread of the virus.
In light of this, the Zimbabwe Chess Federation has since put strategies in place for chess players to continue online in the comfort of their homes using the game fair play protocols.
“We have not been spared from the COVID-19 pandemic but we have been innovative such that we developed the COVID-19 operational plan that we termed checkmate coronavirus and in this plan we introduced an online chess league which has players playing the game online,” said Thabo Elisha, the Public Relations Director.
The national chess federation is set to host the Zimbabwe National Chess Champions and Ladies Chess Champions tournaments online early next month on a ten player closed round robin format.
