OLYMPICS: Rower Peter Purcel-Gilpin still has chance to progress

TEAM Zimbabwe got a feel of the action at the Tokyo Olympic games this Friday, with Rower Peter Purcel-Gilpin coming 4th in the third heat.
The 2020 Tokyo Olympics which are currently underway in Japan saw Zimbabwean rower, Peter Purcel-Gilpin beginning his Olympic journey with a fourth place finish in the third heat this Friday afternoon.
The Zimbabwean, who was in heat 3, crossed the finishing line in a time of seven minutes ten seconds and 65 milliseconds in the men’s single sculls, missing out on an automatic quarter finals berth.
He should now finish 1st or 2nd in the Repechage stage on Saturday to progress to the quarter finals.
Meanwhile, swimmer Donata Katai, will compete in the women’s 100 metres backstroke on Sunday, while Peter Wertzlar, who is in the free style for men, will take the 100m plunge on Tuesday.
In men’s golf, Scott Vincent tees off his first round on the 29th, while Ngoni Makusha will test his sprinting prowess in the men’s 100 metres on the 31st.
The official opening was conducted this Friday, with Peter Wertzlar and Donata Katai leading Team Zimbabwe.
