Warriors booted out of COSAFA Cup
By ZBC Reporter
The Warriors have been booted out of the COSAFA Cup after failing to collect maximum points for the fourth successive game following a two-one loss to guest nation Senegal.
The record six-time winners failed to get a face saver after succumbing to their second defeat in four matches at the 2021 COSAFA tournament.
The Warriors have two points after drawing against Malawi and Mozambique before going down to Namibia.
Coach Zdravko Logarusic whose job could be on the line after just one win in 12 outings is blaming other forces for the team’s poor showing.
My boys suffered from anxiety we played after every two days and other teams had more time to rest we did not get time to recover and that affected us , I am not looking for excuses but it’s the truth,he said.
The Coach also defended his team selection.
We did not bring the best players in the country as we wanted to give more players an opportunity .We already know how some of them w play and this was helping me get more players for my CHAN team, added Logarusic.
And yet in today’s game the Warriors started well after Qadr Amini converted a penalty which gave the Warriors an early lead.
The team’s weaknesses were however exposed with Senegalese winger, Abdou Ndoye tapping in from close range after goalkeeper Martin Mapisa had spilled a shot to go to the breather at one-all.
The match seemed to be headed for a draw before some good team work from the West Africans allowed Mohammad Ba to slot in the winner with a minute to go.
The Warriors are expected back home on Thursday.
