THE national rugby team, the Sables, who are in camp ahead of the Africa Cup competition, are happy with their preparations despite disruptions caused by Covid-19.
The Sables have been in camp for the past eight weeks and managed to play two test matches against Zambia despite disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The team had hoped to play three further matches against Namibia, Portugal and the Blue Bulls of South Africa, but that wasn’t to be as they recently had to scale down their preparations after sporting activities were suspended.
“We are happy with what we have managed to achieve the boys are in high spirits but we were obviously affected by the suspension of sport do we have had to improvise and currently we do gyms we have road walks and its different to actually being on the park,” said Jason Maritz, Sables team manager.
Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Rugby Union has signed a technical partnership with KUVA Holdings that will push the growth of the game in the country.
“We are excited about the world cup dream and we wanted to be a part of it but that is not the only thing that has pushed us we want to be part of the growth of rugby in Zimbabwe there is so much potential so we are going to be supporting from grassroots up till the top end of the game,” said James Saruchera, Kuva Founder.
The Sables are in Group D of the Africa Cup competition which will serve as a first round World Cup Qualifier, and take on Burundi on the 13th of next month in Monastir, Tunisia, before engaging the hosts four days later.
