Zim ‘A’ slump to innings defeat

By ZbC Reporter

Zimbabwe ‘A’ slumped to a heavy loss after succumbing to an innings defeat at the hands of South Africa ‘A’ in the first four day match at Harare Sports Club.

South Africa A won by an innings and 166 runs with only Timycen Maruma and Carl Mumba showing some resistance as Zimbabwe A put up a feeble performance in their second innings and were bowled out for only 93 runs at Harare Sports Club this Thursday.

The hosts began the day on 22 for two, with a deficit of 259 runs and they would struggle in the first session losing five wickets for 49 runs as they went to lunch with the score on 71 for six.

Post lunch, the innings lasted less than half an hour with only Carl Mumba putting up any real fight, hitting three fours in his score of 13 not out off 19 deliveries.

With more support from the other tail-enders he might have been able to take the total past a 100.

The two sides will meet again in the second and final four-day match starting on Sunday at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare.
