South Africa-based Zimbabwean mixed martial arts fighter, Themba Gorimbo, is in the country to promote the sport that has given him fame.
The welterweight champion is intending to set up a mixed martial arts gym that will lay the foundation for the development of the sport in the country.
Gorimbo, who is also the reigning sports person of the year, started his career in South.
“I am hoping to set up a gym and see the start grow. I want to set up a gym in Borrowdale, Mufakose, Chitungwiza and Mbare. We have so much potential. We have four fighters in EFC and two are champions. That shows you how much potential we have,” he said.
Popularly known as “The Answer”, Gorimbo has also brought in American Carla Esparza who is the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) straw weight champion.
Said Esparza, “I want to help Themba set up some gyms and also see the situation on the ground so that I can be informed on how best to assist. The first step is to have a mixed martial arts gym and build from there.”
Meanwhile, Gorimbo is slowly realising his dream of fighting at the highest level after he was invited to the Dana White Contenders Series were UFC fighters are selected from.
